I stumbled upon this image, which comes from a church in Poland. Apparently this is a not uncommon depiction of Mary Magdalene. Here's several others: www.pinterest.com/pin/38097644… I was curious as to how this depiction of her came to be, since it doesn't seem fitting for a Catholic Saint. Apparently since she lived in the wild for some time, her hair grew longer. Covering her body in hair seems to overemphasize her sensuality and her sins, since she was a prostitute in her early days. And here I thought it was just a way to keep her modest looking. witcombe.sbc.edu/davincicode/m…
A blessed creature covered in fur living in the wilds? Is there some primal root to this idea of the Fainn I had?
Stranger Things 4
I know I'm late to the party on this one, but wow. Season 4 has been such a wonderful heartfelt story arc. *Spoilers ahead* The whole Vecna clock mechanic was right out of a nightmare I used to have as a kid, where bells would chime and their pitch would turn to a minor key, the sky would darken, and wind would blow cold, signifying an evil presence had found me. So, you now, that whole thing resonated a little too well for me. Eddie Munsen is a fantastic new character, likeable without being too much. Eleven's journey tied into a belated origin story behind the creation of the first gate and did it very smoothly. The writing and storytelling all around were so wonderful. It's nice when the story is about the story, and not about trying to make a heavy handed point of some sort. I loved the homage to Nightmare on Elm Street, including the appearance by Robert Englund. Just perfect! Just the same, man did I feel like I was close to someone special for a bit there when Max
Cowboy Bebop
Let's chat about this thing. For those who are unaware, Cowboy Bebop was a standout Anime series that showed up in the US in the late 90s, and filled a huge void in quality storytelling in that medium. For those of us who were youngsters in those days, we had Akira, Ninja Scrolls, Vampire Hunter D, Fist of the Northstar and that's about it. And even those sometimes devolved into violent nonsensical orgies midway into the story. Then Cowboy Bebop was there, quietly ticking through Adult Swim's Toonami program on Saturday nights. It was this cool, gritty, grim sci-fi noir that had style for days and incredible animation especially during the fight scenes. And it had a kick ass jazz soundtrack. It featured Jet Black, a grizzled ex-cop with a checkered past, Spike Spiegel, a first rate martial artist with a shadowy past as a former crime syndicate strong man, Fay Valentine, a grifter and con artist who had a knack for getting in over her head, Ein - a genius corgy, and Ed, a gangly
Rally Cry
Do you think we're going to make it? I don't know unless we try We can sit here scared to move or we can take them by surprise It's submission that they want. It's surrender that they need. When we're doing it their way, their ends will be achieved. Stand up and fight! And I'll stand up with you. We shall succeed. - Dropkick Murphys
Running out of Space
I think I'm nearing the final straw in my time on DeviantArt, which sucks, since this has been my home for years. Ever since Eclipse took over, DA no longer lets me create new drafts in Sta.Sh. So for the last dozen or so stories, I've had to delete and write over other ideas I'd been tossing around in order to write and publish here. But I'm running out of even those spots to use. The only way I can keep publishing here now is to write a draft right in Deviantart under the literature submission option, which is a pretty awful experience. I have almost no control over formatting, especially when I trick DA into saving it for editing later. It sucks, but I'm not sure what I can do. My next few submissions may be my last here, sadly.
